The Drunken Gnome Illusionist

Not sure how uploading a PDF works, and since I forgot to export the project as a jpeg before finishing the class, it's all I got (the preview is the same file as my "Arcane Workbench" in scraps).

The final "assignment" (not the actual final) was to create a CD cover for a song of our choosing. requirements where that it be a 2 page spread, back to back, with lyrics on the back (left), nothing terribly gimmicky (as the instructor put it) like stars or hearts, and that any art we put on it had to be vectors. She also wanted us to observe the rule of thirds.

...I ended up breaking a few of these rules, but the instructor didn't seem to mind too much. Basically, by the time we got to this final project, my trial had run out on InDesign, so I had to do all my work in the classroom, a problem since I really enjoyed taking my time getting vectors tilted just-so. Following the example of a fellow classmate, I downloaded Illustrator and started getting the artwork portions done in that instead. In addition, the background "parchment" appearance was a raster image, but I got away with it because I made it from scratch and it was at the class-accepted 300dpi.

The song I ended up choosing is a story song called "The Drunken Gnome Illusionist" by Dan the Bard, and is supposed to depict the Gnome at study at the end of the second verse (the workbench is an illusion, a replica of the real one projected on parchment; or it's suppose to be).

(Sadly, I just found the link to Dan the Bard's official page and realizes I got some of the lyrics wrong. Oops!)

Haha don't always gotta follow the rules for a good turn out. I think ya did a good job making a themed cover. (: Definitely not too overstated or anything, it's always good to keep it simple and a lil' theme like this works out nice! I love using InDesign, though Illustrator vectors aren't my best part so I think ya did a good job there if I read right. X3
